Couponing 101

Q:  Where do I get coupons?

A:  The Sunday Paper is your main source.  You will find coupon inserts weekly (except for holidays) from Smart Source, Red Plum, and Procter & Gamble.  Some weeks you might only have one insert, others you might have four.

The internet is also another source for coupons.  Many reputable sites such as Coupons.com, SmartSource, and RedPlum are your main trusted sites to print from.  Most genuine printed coupons will let you print a coupon twice.  Always be leery of internet printed coupons that are for free items or that allow you to print in PDF form.  Those are usually fake coupons.

Ecoupons are also available to load on to your Kroger shopper's card.  You can find these at such sites as Cellfire, ShortCuts, and Kroger.  You can often stack (or combine) these Ecoupons with paper coupons for more savings.

You may also email or write to your favorite companies to ask for coupons for your favorite products.

Q: What stores take coupons?

A: Kroger, Meijer, Walmart, ValuMarket, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, SaveALot, Dollar General, Family Dollar Store, Target, and KMart (I think that's all of them!)

Q: What stores DO NOT take coupons?

A: Big Lots, Dollar Tree, Sam's Club, and Costco

Q: What stores accept internet printed coupons?

A: This answer seems to vary depending on each store. I personally have not had any problems at Kroger, Meijer, Walmart, Target, or KMart. ValuMarket and Dollar General say they accept them, but I've never tried either store. I've also heard of many people having trouble with Walmart accepting internet coupons. I've never tried using internet coupons at any of the drug stores, but have been told by couponers they've used them without a problem.

Q: What stores double coupons?

A: Kroger, Meijer, and ValuMarket double coupons up to $0.50 face value everyday. Meaning a $0.50 coupon will double to $1.00; a $0.30 coupon will double to $0.60; a $0.60 coupon will be redeemed for $0.60 (face value). I've not had limits put on doubling like coupons at Kroger or ValuMarket.

Meijer will only double two alike coupons. Example: If I am trying to purchase three jars of Ragu, and I have three coupons for $0.30 off, the first two coupons will double. The third coupon will only take off the $0.30.
